I am hooked on Mountain Dew. Like seriously hooked. And I need an intervention.
In comes my monthly challenge [Something new… instead of New Year’s Resolutions – since those don’t work anyways – I want to set monthly goals, and use that month to focus on that… while carrying it over into the next month. These may be food or exercise related, or they could be general life goals.] to quit drinking soda. I mean, seriously, who needs it? (Shut up brain, the headaches will go away…)
Soda is actually linked to a lot of bad things. This, for one, is crazy:
One 20-ounce bottle of soda is the equivalent of pouring 17 teaspoons of straight sugar into your body! What’s more, those 250 empty calories can set you up for mood swings, energy dips and weight gain.
Soda is also linked to:
- Tooth decay
- Bone weakening
- Carbonation (gas and stomach irritation)
- Increased risk of diabetes
- Weight gain
I want to quit drinking soda for several reasons, health benefits included. I don’t like that I’m dependent on something like this, especially when I get those nasty caffeine-addict headaches if I haven’t had a soda for a few days. I also don’t like that even though I run quite a bit, I don’t have the self-control to take that healthy mentality with me when I make a choice to drink soda.
So here is my pledge to quit the green stuff and all other sodas out there. I’ve done this before and successfully stopped drinking it for about a year.
