YAY Friday, where have you been this whole week?! Today is a rest day, but then again, in taper phase, it feels like every day is a rest day. You know, have to rest up for that big long run tomorrow… eight miles. That’s the thing I love about marathon training, though. Before getting into training mode, distances like eight, ten and even twelve miles just seem so long. Towards the end of training it’s like, “wait, I have to run eight miles today? THAT’S IT?” I think that’s when you know you are ready for the marathon!
Some random thoughts in today’s edition of Friday Randomness for you on this toasty Friday morning (seriously, where is the snow?!):
1. When I tell people that I live in New York, they automatically think that I walk around in five inch stilettos, live on Starbucks lattes and shop on Fifth Avenue. Oh, not to mention hang out with all the tourists to see the ball drop. I came across this article this week… it’s absolutely hilarious and definitely sets the record straight of what New York living is all about (and why you can’t help but love living here).
2. My sister sent me the link to this ridiculously funny video of Katherine Heigl talking about why she hates balls. It is hilarious (although I don’t think the men appreciate it as much). It’s part of a campaign to promote spay or neuter, which I’m all about (and P.S., have I told you about the super awesome organization I volunteer for? They have a website called GetYourFix.org that helps sponsor pets who need to be spayed/neutered — check it out.).
3. I am not convinced that this will make people keep their resolutions, but have you heard about Gym-Pact? People put in their gym resolutions (i.e., I want to go to the gym three times a week) and basically have to pay if they don’t make it to the gym or don’t stay that long. If that’s not enough motivation, Jason Gay at the Wall Street Journal published a hilarious list of ways to conquer the gym. My favorite:
Give yourself a goal. Maybe you want to lose 10 pounds. Maybe you want to quarterback the New York Jets into the playoffs. But be warned: Losing 10 pounds is hard.
Burn. If that’s not enough to get you to work out, maybe you just need personal trainer cat to help you out:
