SLEEP? WHO NEEDS THAT?

Exhausted. Maybe my tiredness can measure how much fun I had in Wisconsin.
It was a great weekend, but I didn’t get as much sleep as I had hoped. I always wish for extra sleep on days off since well, I never get them when I’m working. But, it didn’t work out that way… but that’s OK. Just adding to the debt, right? Maybe next weekend I can finally stabilize it.
You know how I missed my 20 miler on Friday? I was going to do it yesterday but after traveling for nine hours (and a very good April Fool’s joke from our pilot about being delayed by 1-1/2 hours that EVERYONE fell for), I was not in the mood to run it yesterday nor did I have the energy. Plus with how my IT Band has been acting lately, it might be a blessing in disguise not to run it. So instead of stressing out about not getting it in, I’m leaving it alone and moving forward. I have a great base and I don’t think running it would have really done any more good, but it could have made my IT Band feel a lot worse.
And you know what? I think it helped. I did a quick five miles this morning and my IT Band wasn’t even sore! I also started doing some hip stretches, in addition to my hip exercises, to see if that helps because C thinks that they might be tight and that can contribute to IT Band pain (although I’m pretty sure everything contributes to that, ha). So I hope this is a good sign! And it just means I’ll have really fresh legs for Boston.
Wisconsin was a great time — I ate a lot of cheese, went to the casino, drove across the state and went to a bunch of rand-o bars and paid $2 for shots. I also tried to win the Mega Millions jackpot, but apparently needed to travel to Maryland to get my ticket and not Wisconsin. Shoot.
We also went to a charity bowling event and it was so fun. If you ever get invited to one of these, GO. It was for a local animal shelter and I ended up winning a basket of goodies for my cats, who went wild over it yesterday.
I also got a lot of wedding stuff done! I got to try on my wedding dress again and yep, definitely still love it.
I tried on some headpieces too and my mom talked me into trying on this feather thing that I thought was ugly with a capital U, but it turned out being super cute. Don’t you love when that happens?
How do you recover from a sleepless weekend? Did you have a productive weekend?

To recover I would go to bed somewhere between 7 and 8 tonight or take a nap this afternoon or both. I got in my 20 miler on Saturday which feels great because now I can get in one more long one (22-24) before the marathon. Good job listening to your body and resting!
Ahh that sounds like an amazing idea! What marathon are you training for?
The Sugarloaf marathon in Maine on May 20th
Thanks for the encouragement! Glad you had a good weekend
I agree that sometimes rests can be more effective than training! I am glad your IT band is doing better.
I don't think I could call my weekend especially productive, but I did get to sleep a lot
Thanks! I think sleeping counts as being productive… haha
Glad you had a fun trip!!
Question…how many 20+ milers do you do during marathon training? I've only done one for both of mine but always wondered if I should do more.
I usually do 3, this time I did 1 and for NYC I did 2 (which is currently my PR).
Sounds like you had a good weekend! When are you getting married? Totally understand how you feel – trying to balance 7 million things AND plan a wedding!! You'll sleep on your honeymoon, right?
Good luck in Boston!
October! I see you are an October bride too.
Thanks!

Oh…the feather thingy in your hair! Love that!
Yeah! I'll have to get a picture of it when I buy it
[...] One of the perks of having a fiance who works in physical therapy means that you get to hang out with physical therapists a lot. As a runner, this is a good thing because they are super smart people who know a lot about the body… so if you talk about a random pain, they can fix it. Case in point: IT Band. [...]
