What’s a better way to celebrate the kick off of summer than with some fitness challenges? I learned last summer that no matter what you do in this city, whether you wear your hair in a messy bun or wear the lightest sundress you can find, you are still going to sweat it out. Sorry, but its just the gross fact of life of New York that nobody talks about (you know, because we are all lucky to live in posh places like Carrie Bradshaw).
Anyways, I’m amping up the sweat factor this summer by completing a few different challenges:
Yesterday kicked off the Runner’s World Summer Run Streak 2012. To participate, you have to run at least a mile a day for every single day from Memorial Day to 4th of July. 38 days straight. I have never run this many days in a row and I think it’ll be a fun challenge. It will keep me motivated to get out of bed in the morning when I know that the area in our apartment outside our bedroom is at least 20 degrees warmer.
Kara at Kara Runs also kicked off a Strong Core Challenge for the next few months. It was supposed to start yesterday, but I epically failed and didn’t remember that until after I did my own core workout. So, I will be kicking this off tomorrow. Depending on how intense you want it to be, you can do it three or six days a week… it only takes 16 minutes total. We all have that much time to spare in a day, right? Just use the Run Streak to warm yourself up and continue with the core challenge.
I am finishing up the Burpee Challenge, created by Scott at Your Inner Skinny. Let me tell you, this is getting HARD. I did 30 this morning and I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. Yesterday I finished up the Burpee Challenge with an ice cold CLICK protein drink (I stuck in in the freezer for 15 minutes before I drank it. Heaven.)… and I think that’s a good motivator to get through the challenge because the last five or six kill me. It will get easier.
Are you participating in any challenges? How are you challenging yourself this summer?
