MY FIVE FAVORITE THINGS TODAY

I feel like I’ve been running around like crazy this morning, but I got a lot accomplished! First, knocked out an 8 mile run. I am going to “officially” start training for Ragnar and the Brooklyn Marathon the week of August 6, but it doesn’t hurt to start building up my mileage again. Especially since I’ve been slacker McSlacksty lately. It was two quick loops around Prospect Park and it was beautiful weather.
I even pushed myself to do some ab workouts afterwards. I never do that on weekends. What is happening to me?
Afterwards, I headed up to the Upper East Side for volunteer orientation. I’ve been going through a process to volunteer at a hospital, and I think I might finally be at the end of it. I have my “interview” on Monday, so if that goes well, I’ll be cleared to start. Wahoo!
Now I’m dawdling before I put my clothes away. One of my least favorite things to do here because we have no room so I have to get super creative in how I organize my clothes. Maybe I need to throw away some old favorites which is almost like losing a childhood friend.
Anyways, I thought I’d share my favorite five things today with you:
1) Cooler Weather
I have been happy as a clam since yesterday when the temperature dropped like 20-30 degrees. When I left work yesterday, I was actually COLD walking outside! What?! I woke up this morning to a little warmer weather, but in the 60s?! Heaven.
After dying of heat for the past three weeks, this is well-needed. Today is slightly warmer but just as gorgeous, and I’m loving it.
Oh and besides, do you know what else cooler weather means? Fall. And I love fall. It means football, fall marathon season, hoodies, apple pie, beautiful colors, brisk weather and did I mention football?
2) Blog post comparing marathons to marriage
Lisa at RunWiki wrote a blog post that compares running a marathon to marriage, spurred by a conversation she had with an elderly woman. It is amazing and so very true. Even if you aren’t married, it is worth the read because you can definitely learn something about yourself.
And, it is definitely in line with what I’ve been reading in Adam Goucher’s “Running the Edge.” He talks a lot about how several characteristics it takes to be a marathon runner, such as determination and tenacity, are found in other aspects of our life. More on that later, though.
But definitely head over to read Lisa’s piece, you’ll enjoy it. I promise.
3) Cherries
Ohmygod I am so obsessed with cherries right now.
I usually get extremely obsessed with watermelon in the summer months but lets face it, paying twice as much for a watermelon half the size of what we used to get in Florida and Minnesota is annoying and it’s painful to carry it four blocks and up four flights of stairs with my t-rex arms.
Anyways, cherries are a good alternative. I love the tart flavor and hey, did you know that they are super good for you?
A substantial and growing body of scientific research has linked tart cherries to anti-inflammatory benefits, reduced pain from gout and arthritis and an extensive list of heart health benefits. Recent studies even suggest tart cherries can help reduce post-exercise muscle and joint pain.
4) Udi’s Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
I have walked past these in the grocery sore about 294 times so I finally decided that I should splurge and buy them.
WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG? These are amazing. You can’t even tell that they are gluten free. C doesn’t believe me though and refuses to sample. That’s OK, more for me (heheh). I seriously could have eaten all of these when I got home last night but have been working on my willpower.
5) Wedding planning
With less than three months to go (!!!), I am in full wedding planning mode. It’s so fun to work on stuff now knowing that it is just around the corner. I have a longggg list of stuff to work on, which I’m sure will only grow even as I check things off. But, one of the priorities for this weekend is to order our guestbook. We are going to do a frame where guests engrave their message to us.
It looks really cool! The past few weeks we’ve gotten a lot done… C has all of his attire (and groomsmen’s attire) picked out, my dress is in the final stages of alterations, my mom is working on some awesome bridal party gifts and we have all of our RSVPs in. The one thing I’m struggling with is finding cute silver shoes for the girls to wear with their dresses. Any suggestions?
Do you become attached to your clothes? What are five things you are loving right now?

I'm loving that picture of Baby!!!!!
Hhahah so classic!! Hope your run went well this morning!!
I am glad the weather cooled off for you. I was just there a few weeks ago but I was armoring the heat because San Francisco never gets that warm. It was a nice change.
Silver kids shoes, here are a few suggestions:
The Childrens Place http://www.childrensplace.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s…
The Pumpkin Patch http://www.pumpkinpatchusa.com/flatshot/S1FW30016…
Hope that helps!
Thanks so much!! I heard San Francisco has nice cool summer weather… jealous!
Love Dirty Dancing. And each of your Favorite Things made me smile today! Wishing you the best!
Thanks! It is such a great classic movie!
I'm going cherry crazy right now, too. They're just too delicious for me to pass up when I see them at the grocery store. Summer seaonal food is the best.
I get attached to a few pieces of clothing, usually if I really fell in love with it when I bought it or if I bought it when I was in a special place. (I have a few tops that I never wear and will probably never wear again, but I bought them in Australia so it's really hard for me to think of getting rid of them.) I'm going to be moving at the end of the year and will definitely need to be donating a lot of clothes so I don't have to move them, so I feel your pain.
And aren't they super cheap right now too? I can't believe the prices!! Ooh I know what you mean, some of the shirts I have are from Japan and I've only worn them once or twice.
Wedding planning is so exciting!! I love that marathon post you linked!! My dad actually did our wedding ceremony. He's a runner and he also compared marriage to a race. So perfect.
That's awesome that your dad did your ceremony!! What a nice touch
And so cool that he talked about racing hahah will he come to Jamaica and do ours?!
jealous that's it cool over there
I just ran tonight and felt like I was suffocating Bleh lol. I'm on a cherry kick too! They are soo yummy. I've even been daydreaming about the Rainier variety I saw at Publix last week. I haven't tried this kind before so I'm really curious to try.
Ooh I haven't heard about that variety, let me know how it is if you try it? Yeah we are back to warmer weather so it was a short period of bliss…
