Race phrase: Slow and steady wins the race!
Pre-race preparation: Yesterday we ate lunch later than usual so that meant we weren’t that hungry when it came around to dinner. Initially, we wanted to try out the new Pork Slope in the neighborhood (BBQ = yum) but it was incredibly busy (duh, first night opening) so we ended up going to our old standby — Bonnie’s Grill — which was also really busy. After waiting for 20 minutes we realized we should have just put in a to go order to eat at home… Anyways, we noshed on some wings and fries and had an early-ish bedtime (at least for a Saturday night).
I woke up this morning and OH NO I had been glutened. Sad face. I had the same wings before with no problems but I’m assuming cross-contamination got the best of me. At this point, I was frustrated and sad and really had no idea how the race was going to go. I threw all thoughts of a good race out the window and headed up to the park about 20 minutes later than I thought.
Actual race: Surprisingly, my gut stopped being so ridiculous and let me run the race I wanted to run. It was nice and cool this morning (well cool for August anyways), which gave me a perfect opportunity to break out my new Sweat Pink Ambassador shirt! Woo!

I focused on keeping an even pace so I was ready to tackle the Prospect Park hill… three times. On the hill, I was so happy that I was able to close the gap or even pass several people. Sorry, competitiveness in me.
What I loved: I will never complain about running in Prospect Park (which is good, since the Brooklyn Marathon is like six laps around) so of course I loved that. It was great to run a smaller race and not have to get up at 5:30 a.m. to commute an hour to get to the start.
The weather was great, there was a crowd and the theme of Battle of Brooklyn was played out very well by JackRabbit Sports (some Redcoats were shooting water at runners as they went by). Plus, the race schwag was different (bag + pint glass).
Time: I have never run a 10 mile race before so I didn’t know what to expect. I’m really happy with my time!

[...] my first 10 mile race last month? I beat that time by 2 minutes! Still slower than my pace per mile for my half marathon [...]
