A few weeks ago, the awesome people over at Core Power asked me if I wanted to try their product. I had heard a lot of great things about it and am always looking for new ways to get protein into my diet, so I was definitely on board.

Soon, this creatively wrapped package showed up on my doorstep…

I love getting mail, but mail in really cool packaging? Even better!

I decided to save the drink until after a long run and fueled up after my 17 miler last weekend. One of my problems when I get done with a long run like that is I’m really hungry afterwards, but move a little slower since my body is still freaking out a bit about what just happened (you know, the whole we just ran the distance between my hometown and the nearest ‘city’ aka place with a stoplight). I’ve had some instances where I don’t fuel up soon enough after running and I pay for it the rest of the day.

Even though you don’t have to refrigerate before drinking, I did and I think was the perfect touch. I tried the vanilla and it was REALLY good. Like you couldn’t even tell it was a protein drink. It felt like I was drinking liquid vanilla pudding. While I know many people are concerned about liquid calories, in this case, I think Core Power has the right balance of calories to fit with your needs after a long and tough endurance workout — and it’s GOOD calories, not just empty sugar.

This weekend I have a 20 miler and can’t wait to try the next flavor… Strawberry Banana! The Honey also sounds really tasty…
