Running in the cold

I knew that this week was going to be on the chillier side so it gave me perfect reason to fire up my Crock Pot (doesn’t that sentence just make me sound Midwestern?).
Last night I made a variation of tortilla soup and it was SO good…
I took two pieces of chicken breasts (chopped and cooked) and stuck it in the crock for 8 hours with a can of chicken broth, two cans diced tomatoes, one can chopped green chilies and two cans black beans. I also added in some spices like chili powder, ground black pepper, ground cumin, garlic powder and salt. Then topped it off with some sharp cheddar and sour cream. I also crunched some tortilla chips in it too.
And now after a long weekend, it’s back to the grind. Wah wah.
I only stop running if temperatures are below 0* and when I woke up this morning, it was well above my mark:
(hey if you think that’s cold check out the weather in my hometown:)
I did five miles in the park and I must say this is the best my legs have felt since the Houston Marathon, which is a good sign… or maybe they were just frozen so they couldn’t feel pain. Either way, it was a good run (and kind of nice since the park was pretty much empty because of the weather). I wore my pants aka these capris from MPG, which are super comfy and nice to wear in cold weather but apparently designed for super models over 6′ tall.
I also broke out a windbreaker that I got from a race in Minnesota in 2006… and haven’t used it since, until this winter. That’s why I’m a pack rat scared to throw away clothes… one day they’ll become your favorites again.
What’s your favorite quick Crock Pot recipe? What’s your temperature “cut off” for running outside? What’s the weather like by you today?

It’s a brisk 18 degrees outside in Spokane this morning. BRRRR. I currently can’t run outside because everything has been covered in snow/ice for the last month. I don’t want to break anything and I don’t like running in yak trax for longer than a couple of miles.
I love using my slow cooker! I made an awesome turkey chili on Sunday. There was enough leftover for 6 lunches. Score!
That's the worst — I hope they clear up the roads soon!! I don't understand why it takes them so long sometimes.
Ohhh that soup sounds yummy!
I love crock pot recipes!
Me too!! They just seem so easy since it does the cooking for you
Ugh I hate the cold! Your hometown temp makes me want to barf!
That soup sounds fabulous! I am deeeefinitely not missing all the winter weather up north, that is for sure!
I bet not! It has to be like 50 degrees warmer where you are!?
