Once upon a time I used to run in Nike Pegasus.

And then someone at Nike had a bright idea and decided to make them into un-neutral shoes. My IT band got really mad.

So I did some research and stumbled across the Asics Gel Cumulus, which felt like heaven on my feet. I was in love.

It was a short love affair because after only wearing these for about a year, that person at Nike infiltrated Asics and told them to stop making such a neutral shoe. LUCKILY, I did some research before buying the updated Cumuluses and determined that they lost wayyy too much cushioning to keep my legs and feet happy.

So it was back to the drawing board.

My favorite place to go when this happens? Runner’s World Shoe Advisor. This is the most wonderful running resource ever. It helps you find the best shoe for your body and for what you need. Because as I’ve learned a few times, not having the right shoe is a BIG deal and can lead to some severe injuries. (My worst? Getting severe shinsplints from not having enough support and being sidelined for nearly two months.)

So I went to check out the Cumulus 13s which made my feet happy and looked for a shoe that was similar. I ended up narrowing it down to three different pairs, including one from Saucony and one from Brooks. I had never run, let alone tried on, either of these brands of shoes so I went up to JackRabbit, our local running store, to see how they fit.

The Brooks Glycerin 10s fit well but seemed like they almost had too much cushion… I liked them, but I wasn’t 100% sold. I loved the Saucony Triumphs and thought they were going to become the shoe.

Of course, I needed to check everything one more time. In my research, I uncovered that the Triumphs I tried on weren’t the most recent model, and the most recent model lost a great deal of cushioning.

Which sealed my decision…

I now #RunHappy with Brooks! I’ve heard so many great things about these shoes and this brand. Who ever knew there was so much drama with selecting running shoes?!

Anyways, I am going to try them out on tomorrow’s easy run… let’s hope for some happy feet!
