You know how sensitive I am about my shoes, but when I was given the opportunity to try out the Saucony Virratas there was no way I could say no! These shoes are the latest in the realm of minimalist running.
Stripped down to strong. The Virrata is our lightest and most flexible training shoe and allows your foot to move naturally. We removed everything that isn’t helping your run improve. What remains is a feather-light, ultra flexible shoe with advanced cushioning that promotes a powerful stride and allows your foot to move the way it was meant to. Built on a 0mm offset, this shoe lets your feet do the work while providing plenty of protection from the road. The breathable mesh upper makes the shoe incredible lightweight and quick-drying to run in wet weather conditions.
Of course, when I first opened the box I was immediately in love…
…how awesome are those colors? Bright, bright, bright! Perfect for spring and perfect for fun races.
Trying them on, I immediately noticed that they were super comfortable and extremely light. Like so light that it didn’t even feel like I had shoes on my feet! I was impressed. I didn’t run extremely far in the shoes, but long enough to get a good grasp on how the Virratas fit. My favorite parts:
- Super super light! It felt like I was running in my socks.
- The reason why I didn’t believe I was running in my socks? Because of the support which feels weird to say of a minimalist shoe. But wow, my foot felt comfortable.
- Not feeling like I was pounding. When I wear my Vibrams, I can feel when my foot hits the ground and it makes me nervous (remember those IT band issues? Yeah.). That doesn’t happen with the Virratas which is awesome.
Overall, I give these:
… a big thumbs up. These are great shoes and I’m so excited to have them as part of my training collection. While I won’t be wearing these on my next long run, they will definitely be great to wear on shorter runs and at shorter races. I can’t wait to see how my time improves at a future 5K with these babies strapped to my feet.
