I must admit that I’m not a huge fan of April Fools’ Day, mostly because I know I’m going to end up falling for something. It’s inevitable.
I thought I was on the right track, you know, since I knew what day it was and promised myself I wasn’t going to fall for anything. I don’t even think I was awake for 15 minutes when I read an email about this race:
I immediately forwarded to one of my best friends asking her how she thought they were going to pull it off… and didn’t realize until late last night that it was a prank. Luckily I wasn’t alone because NYCRUNS Facebook wall was filled with people complaining about how the race was too close to ING New York City Marathon.
ZOOMA Women’s Race Series also had a good one that I saw a few people fall for — no more disposable cups on the course, so runners are required to bring their own water/fluids. Believable.
I think my favorite one is this one:
Seriously, I would like to dress my cats up like mini Lewis and Clark.
This morning was my last sprint workout before Boston. Are you sick of me a) telling you about my “last” workouts and b) talking about Boston?
I did 4 x 1 mile with some rest in between and about a mile warm-up and cool down. I must tell you that I’m not minding these shorter workouts… a few extra minutes spent in bed are well spent indeed.
My first two splits — 7:33 and 7:35 — were in line with what I did last time I did these sprints. I was disappointed because I knew I could do better. I have this awful habit of starting to daydream in the middle of runs and then when I snap out of it, I realize that I am not going as fast as I can… but by that time, it’s too late to really push myself to make a difference.
The final two splits were much better — 7:10 and 7:07. According to my training plan, these splits are quite impressive and for people who are running super speedy. I’m not sure I’ll be that speedy, but I do hope that this is the race when I finally break my PR set in 2010.
I finished up my workout with some push ups (I seriously suck at these) and some kettlebell lifts. I will make up for all of that lost time and make my 2013 goal happen!
