One of the things that I’ve always struggled with is my weight. I was a chunky child, mostly because I didn’t know how to say no to food that was offered to me. I started running when I was in middle school to lose some of this weight and eventually joined track and cross country in high school. I did lose a bunch of weight which was great… but even so, the struggle still continues.
I still struggle with my weight to this day, and running really does help me have a healthy view on my body. I have moments — like when I look at race photos — where I get really sad about my weight. It frustrates me that I run and (generally) eat healthy, but still can’t seem to drop these extra 10-15 pounds.
These are pounds that have crept up on me over the years, probably mostly over the past four years. I do know that part of it has to do with the fact that my job is a sitting job and that I am under a great deal of stress with my current lifestyle (it’s New York, I wouldn’t expect anything different). Plus with my diagnosis of IBS, that just adds a challenge into the mix.
So here we go. I am starting a new plan… a plan to find the right foods for me and figure out how to healthily feed my body.
And it is literally called “The Plan.”
The idea behind “The Plan” is to help you find the best lifestyle that works for you. I love the author’s — Lyn-Genet Recitas — philosophy that its all about YOU. I am the worst at dieting (along with 99% of people) because I hate that feeling that I “can’t” eat something. It just makes me want to eat it more.
Her philosophy is that you find the foods that have a negative reaction to your body, and take it out of your diet. So, most people react poorly to almonds or salmon (can you believe it?), but find that they can still have bread, fruits and even sweets! As you figure out how your body reacts to food, you lose weight because her thought is that inflammation causes weight gain.
I am going on a 20-day journey to figure out what foods work for me. In the process, I may lose some weight and I’m sure I’ll face some struggles. But it will be so worth it to have a plan for the future and KNOW what foods are best.
I will be posting daily updates about my journey in the plan, which will be all accessible here.
Have you heard about “The Plan”?
