Yesterday was my first day back at running… woo woo!
I really didn’t know what to expect… I haven’t really run since before Christmas. I think I have a total of 3.5 miles in the books this year so far… watch out!!
I have been really good at my hip exercises and stretching (I know, weird).
Initially, C and I discussed running three miles. I figured out a route where I didn’t have to hit hardly any hills. Which is almost impossible here in Austin…
So I started running… it was slow, but hey I was going! And no knee pain! My route was .75 miles out… and back… and out and back again. On my way back, my knee started feeling a little sore so I figured I better be happy with 1.5 miles and give my body some time to rest. Maybe I’m being crazy, but so so so fearful that it will turn into pain and then once again, I’ll be sidelined on the couch… (<— although I have been loving the Daily HIIT Catching Fire challenge… 12 minute workout once a day?)
No pain so far, three cheers for that. And it looks like I’ll be building myself up again to handle these hills and trail-ish running along Lady Bird Lake.
If all goes according to plan, it means I can run a marathon later this spring and finally cross #15 off the list! Only to select which one to run…
That being said, the past few weeks have been tough. I know people are going through a lot more rough stuff than the curveballs that have been thrown my way lately, but man, it has been a true test of keeping a positive attitude.
But I am looking at starting to run again as a step in the right direction… and let’s hope the other things will fall into place.
Marathoners! Any late spring recommendations? Looking anywhere in the U.S.
Thoughts on 2014 so far… good? bad? meh?
