She lives in Brooklyn, NY so I love reading about her adventures in my old city… and she is currently training for her FIRST marathon — the New Jersey Marathon. Enjoy!


Where to Find Healthy Life Happy Wife

1. How did you come up with your blog name? 
Well, I knew that I wanted my blog to focus on overall healthy living so I wanted to be sure to reflect that in my blog name.  I also have a slight obsession with celebrity gossip and reality television so while brainstorming with my husband, I stumbled upon a play on the phrase I thought was catchy – “Happy Wife Happy Life”  that I had originally heard from Teresa Guidice on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.  I checked to make sure there weren’t any similar sounding blogs out there – & once I confirmed that there weren’t I bought the domain name and my blog was born!  Being the crazy, neurotic lawyer I am, I even trademarked my blog title with the USPTO in 2012!
2. Living in NYC can be crazy busy. How do you balance healthy living and exercise with work and everything else? 
It is definitely difficult.  My best tip would be:  Be Prepared!  I always pack lunch for work with enough healthy snacks to keep me satisfied so that I don’t have the urge to order fast food or go out and buy candy at one of the many bodegas around my office.  In terms of working out, I have started keeping two gym bags at my office so that on those days that I can get out of work early enough to go to the gym, I already have my gym clothes ready.  Taking away a lot of the guesswork definitely helps me to stay healthy.
3. What is your favorite go-to healthy dinner recipe?
When I’m short on time, my go-to is always a giant salad.  My husband lovingly calls them “garbage disposal” salads because I will literally just throw in whatever veggies/protein/toppings I have on hand.  I have this giant bowl with a lid that is perfect for shaking every thing up so everything is perfectly mixed together.  My recent fav has been broccoli slaw, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, hummus, jalapenos, chickpeas, beets, frank’s red hot and sesame ginger dressing.  Don’t knock it ’till you try it!
4. How do you stay motivated to maintain your healthy living goals, even when things aren’t going “right”?
This happens a lot for me.  There are definitely too many occasions where I fall off track and have to find the motivation to get back into the healthy living mindset.  For me, the biggest help is having a goal in my mind.  Right now I am training for my first marathon and I know that my overall health and fitness is an important factor in making my experience a good one!
5. What is your number one tip for people to stay motivated to reach their health/fitness goals? 
Hmm.  My number one tip for people to stay motivated would probably be to understand that the first step is the hardest.  Once you push yourself to put on your running shoes or walk into the gym, it will be a lot easier from that point on.  Making something a habit takes some time but that first step is always the hardest for me and once I get over that hurdle, I am always happier for it.
