As you may have guessed, Mexican food in Texas is pretty amazing. There are a number of great places that we have tried out, but one of my favorites has been Chuy’s. They have a chips and salsa bar during happy hour, along with some amazing prices on margaritas. 

Also really cool… they have a 5k this weekend! The race… the Chuy’s Hot to Trot 5k, which is in its 31st year, is the LAST year which a) makes me sad and b) was why I really wanted to sign up.

I may not be in 5k shape. But I know it will be fun and a great way to participate in this classic event. 

With that in mind, my race strategy:

  • Get into pace at one mile —> steady through mile two —> pick it up for mile 3 —> sprint it in for .1
  • FOCUS… sounds weird, but with shorter races, I find that I daydream a lot… (I think it’s because when it comes to longer races, I tell myself I can just be kinda “whatever” during the first three miles, which can’t be the same during this type of race.)
  • Enjoy the FLAT… I may not be in PR shape, but a flat course like they promise could be enjoyable. Although, not sure if this is “flat” by normal people’s standards or flat by Austin standards. 😉
  • HAVE FUN. This is always a top race goal for me. After all, isn’t this why we do it?!
