Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it. ~ Greg Anderson
In our hyper-active lives these days, I feel like we often forget our focus. We have countdowns… “only 47 more days until [insert exciting thing]! We talk about our wishes… “I wish it was fall, it’s too hot right now.” And in the process, we forget to live in the moment.
A few years ago, I made a promise to myself to work on this. While we lived in Florida, I spent a little over two years wishing for the “next thing.” Thinking about where life would take us next, and instead of truly enjoying the moments that were before me, I instead dreamed of what life would be.
So since then, I’ve changed my focus. Instead of wishing for what was next, to focus on what was happening now. After all, as corny as it may sound, you can only live each moment in the day once… and don’t you want it to be that best moment?
When it comes to fitness, this is the same thing.
We have those big goals in front of us. To lose 20 pounds, to hit that marathon time, to finally do that set of pull ups.
Whatever it is, we wish for the day when we can finally do that. But in the process, we forget to enjoy what gets us there.
These are the moments that are fuel for the fire, the moments that we look back on and remember after we hit those goals.
Those days when things get tough, focus on the moment.
That focus will lead you to the finish line for the day, which will lead you to the finish line of your goal.
Do you try to focus on the moment? Do you find that it’s hard?
What’s the big goal you have in front of you right now?
