After a relaxing eight days in the Northwoods, it’s back to Austin… back to life… and back to running! I left you guys with a cliffhanger — would I run while on vacation or not.
And I chose “or not.” I ran a 5k with my nephew (who placed 2nd in his AG!) last Saturday and from then on, my running shoes didn’t even leave my suitcase.
I did feel a little bit guilty, but thanks to all of your great advice… I knew it was probably better to take some time off than not. I was starting to feel a little bit of burn out before vacation and well, it kinda makes sense. For the past few years, I’ve never really taken time off running unless it’s been forced because of an injury.
And now, I’ve officially started marathon training! So, there will be no break for months. (If I get my way, not until April since I’ll *hopefully* be running Boston in 2015.)
So yes, much needed and I feel so much better. I actually have a “want” to get out the door and run, which has been missing for a bit.
More on my official training plans tomorrow, but for today… vacation photos and recap!
This is our last year headed up to the cabin after 8 years. It was bittersweet — still fun, but just felt a bit different.
However, that led to more creativity while on the boat (best part: turns out it was a twist off.)
For the first time in my life, I finally ate at Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty in Minocqua. This is a Wisconsin gem and it’s embarrassing that I went 29 years without ever eating here. It was delicious.
My sister and her family also rented some kayaks…
…which was smart because this happened:
But luckily my Dad decided to get it fixed so we could enjoy one more day out on the lakes.
All in all, a great trip! Now it’s time to figure out where we’ll be going for next year’s summer vacation!
Do you go on an annual vacation each year? Where do you go?
