This weekend is the Houston Marathon! I am so excited to hit the course tomorrow, especially since I know it’s different than when I ran it last. I didn’t get a chance to run it in 2014 due to a hamstring injury (boo) so I had to defer my entry.
I am excited for the race, and a bit apprehensive. I have been on a marathon streak since November (NYC Marathon – Dallas Marathon – Houston Marathon) and with the holidays, I didn’t run as much as I wanted. Plus, I felt like my taper was too hard for the Dallas Marathon because my legs were not feeling fresh when I hit the start.
I wanted to find a happy balance between that, but I feel like in the process, I may have gone a little too soft on my training.
One of the other things I realized with Dallas Marathon is that I completely let all cross-training go to the wayside and oh boy, was it a bad decision. I have (slowly) started making this a part of my workout routine, and will continue to build on it!
Anyways, Houston Marathon goals.
I am keeping my mind free of goals, I may go out with like a 3:45 pace, but I am just out there to run it and enjoy the course. No goals at all. I’m not even letting myself think well, maybeeeee….
The weather itself is supposed to be a little “meh” (why does Mother Nature hate marathons so much?!) so that will present its own challenges.
But here we go… hopefully the next time you hear from me, I’ll have #18 under the belt. 😉
Do you always set goals for races? Why or why not?
What is the #1 thing you are looking forward to this weekend?
