In this training cycle, I’ve been focused on improving my nutrition and eating. I gained some weight after we moved to NYC and I’m still trying to get it off. Going out to a new restaurant and/or bar every night has definitely helped. 🙂
One of the biggest things I’ve changed — how I snack. I used to snack because I thought I deserved it after a tough workout or because I’m running so much so I definitely need to eat.
After reading Meb’s newest book, I kinda had a wake up call — he talked about how once he hit a certain age, he had to watch how much he ate (e.g., half a bagel instead of a full bagel) so he didn’t gain weight. So if an elite runner who’s job is to work out needs to watch what he makes, it made me realize that I needed to, too.
In addition to focusing on whether I’m eating when I’m hungry, I’ve also changed what I snack on, when I do. I used to eat pure carbs, which don’t really do much for filling you up. Protein –> a much better snack choice. Not only does it help you stay full, but runners need to eat protein because we break down muscle protein and the fibers in our muscles (sounds like such a relaxing sport, ha)… and we need protein to help repair these muscles and keep them strong.
So, a snack that I’ve recently fallen in love with? Plenti Yogurt.
The reason why I love this yogurt better than any other Greek yogurt I’ve had before is the texture. I am a huge texture person when it comes to food (hence why I hate cheesecake) and I’m a big fan of the differences in this yogurt. It features whole grain oats, flax and pumpkin seeds to give it a boost in texture and in flavor.
- Plenti Greek Yogurt is gluten free.
- It features a 1:1 to protein to sugar ratio (12g of each) —> recently Greek yogurts have been criticized for too much sugar, and Plenti has helped reduce it quite a bit.
- It comes in eight flavors: Black Cherry, Blueberry, Coconut, Peach, Raspberry, Spiced Apple, Strawberry, Vanilla
- It’s available in most grocery stores, but check out HERE where you can buy in your area
Have you tried Plenti Yogurt? What did you think?
Do you snack a lot? Have you hit “that” age where you metabolism slows down?
