Happy Wednesday, everyone! I am really excited because today is technically my Thursday since I took a vacation day on Friday… and, I will end up spending my day running a 20 miler. More on the reason why tomorrow. 🙂

But today, talking about how to fuel your run the right way. For long-time readers of CRG, you’ve likely followed my crazy nutrition journey. From going gluten-free, to quitting sugar, to trying The Plan, I’ve been a little all over the place. The one thing that I’ve learned over the years is how important it is to listen to your body and find the fuel that works for YOU.

So, today, I’m sharing how to fuel your run the right way:
5 tips for fueling your run
Have a plan. Fail to plan, plan to fail, right? It’s amazing how writing out a menu or thinking about your snacks for the day before you leave the house in the morning can make such a huge difference in your success.

In our house, we make menus for about two weeks at a time and it makes the process of cooking dinner so much easier. After a long day, all I have to do is look at the fridge, pull out the ingredients and go. Without that, I know I would inevitably choose something “way easier” or opt for going out to eat.

Never skip breakfast! I cringe when I think back to my high school days when I would skip breakfast nearly every single day. There’s a reason why it’s the most important meal of the day! It can help you maintain a healthy body weight and give you the energy you need to get through your day.

As a morning runner, I find that it’s nearly impossible to find a fuel that keeps me full for more than two hours. For the past few weeks, I’ve switched things up with the Bowflex Body Fitness Shake in Vanilla with some Peanut Butter – Protein+ for an extra boost.

What I like about these:

I know that in the summer months, it’s really easy to drink a lot… but as we start sweating less (thank goodness) in the fall, it can be a bit more of a challenge. Always make sure that you have water close to you, because you will drink it without even realizing it.

Know your weaknesses. I am admittedly still addicted to soda (seriously, what do they put in Mountain Dew?), but have been focusing on kicking that habit with the Bowflex Daily Energy. Around 2 or 3 p.m. in the afternoon, I just get a craving for something sweet that I can’t seem to get out of my head until I feed myself with it.
