Happy happy Friday! The craziness at work is done (for the week, anyways!) and it felt so good last night to skip out of work at 4:59 p.m. and head home, even if it meant dealing with rush hour traffic.
In just 48 hours, I’ll be tackling marathon #20… the Hill Country Marathon! In case you missed it, this video is pretty much the reason why I signed up for this race:
My training hasn’t been the greatest (thanks, iron deficiency) and I’ve had some of my lovely stomach issues return over the past few weeks (thanks, IBS). So, I really have no idea where I stand in terms of preparation for this race.
That’s totally OK.
I am going into this race with no goals, no expectations, no anything.
Just to run a race and enjoy it as much as I can.
Maybe I’ll feel speedy that morning? (Although given this elevation profile, probably not:)
Or maybe I’ll see what it’s like to run a race with 0 course support (and 0 water stops… which I just read yesterday. Oops.).
It probably sounds insane, but I love running races like this… especially marathons. I feel like, just because of the sheer amount of effort that goes into running marathons, it just naturally becomes a big deal. We eat, breathe, think our goals for 16 or even 18 weeks. When it doesn’t go our way… it can be extremely disappointing. I am sure I’m not the only one that’s cried at a finish line after a bad race.
So having the chance to run a marathon to actually enjoy it? Two thumbs up to that!
