Happy Friday! After a tough workout at Orangetheory this morning, all I wanted was a smoothie. So with that in mind, I wanted to share some favorite smoothie recipes for runners (plus, one is Valentine’s Day themed… awwww). What makes them great for runners? The balance of protein and vitamins, which are important for strong muscles.
Plus, I love smoothies because they are super easy to make, and you can eat them for any meal. Add a little protein powder and they are perfect for after a workout. I recently started trying BeFit protein powder, and will have more information about my thoughts on that in the coming weeks.
So this week, I’m sharing five smoothie recipes for runners… and linking up with Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC for Friday Five! Woo!
The avocado and flax make this a great post-workout smoothie. It is thick and creamy, but also has the good stuff — some vitamins, minerals and good fats.
This apparently was made by The Tenors? It looks super yummy… I love the bright pink of it! It has 20 grams of protein, which is also a pretty awesome benefit.
This recipe only has three ingredients, you can’t get better than that! Obviously, you can switch it up a little bit and add more ingredients if you want. But, that’s one of my favorite things about smoothies… so easy to make it your own.
I also get a little irked when I see a green protein shake, ha, but they are wonderful! They have all of the good stuff packed in and I know a lot of my friends even can get their kids to drink them, which makes it a lot easier for them to eat their vegetables. I like this recipe because it has a balance between the greens, with a little sweetness (thanks, bananas!).
So, if you’re like most of the U.S., you are probably in the deep freeze of winter… and could use some sunshine. I can’t bring you that, but maybe you can enjoy some of it in this smoothie recipe from Organically Mo.
If you want more ideas, FitFluential has a post with 41 smoothie recipes over on their blog. Check it out!
