Even though I didn’t include it on my list of “try something new” for the year, I had a completely new experience this weekend — going to a PGA Tour event! It was the Dell Match Play in Austin, and I was lucky enough to score a ticket… including access to a tent, which included some amazing views and fun.
I am not the hugest golfing fan, but duh, sports… I seriously love any type of game with some strategy and a little competition! So it was pretty cool to see some of the greats up close and personal. Definitely something I will remember for years to come!
Also this weekend, an official training run for my next marathon.
I will be running Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth this June. I actually registered to run this race back in the day (like ’08ish) but couldn’t do it do the job that I had at the time. I am excited to FINALLY run this race because I have heard such amazing things.
I love that they posted this over the weekend:
I am still working on my training plan (I know, 12 weeks out, I need to get moving on it!) and as part of it, I will have some speedwork training. I haven’t done a lot of speedwork in the past few years, and it’s going to change this time around… starting this week.
Last week’s workouts were kind of all over the place (and few and far in between) due to some work commitments, but I’m back at it this week:
The 13.1-mile turned 16 miler half marathon… 🙂 This was actually further than I was planning, and I think than my legs were planning, and oh my goodness, I felt it for DAYS afterwards. Did not expect that.
Just over 4 miles with some coworkers in downtown… it felt so good to run the trail mid-week again! I have been running around my neighborhood, but seriously, downtown Austin with the trail around Town Lake is where it’s at for running.
Rest day! I was supposed to OTF it up, but yeah… just too exhausted from the week (we had a really huge work event, so I wasn’t even mad at myself about this. I ended up taking a 4-hour nap, which was completely needed).
3.5 mile run. My legs were STILL a little sore and tired from the half! It felt good to get out there and get moving, though.
14 mile long run. My legs felt really fresh and my body was finally NOT sore from the half marathon. I hit the trail downtown again and it was SO good. I love when you can hit a solid long run early on in your training!
37.5 miles for the week, which is one of the better weeks I’ve had lately. Now that I’m in the midst of marathon training, I am focusing on being more consistent and building that mileage. After all, only 12 weeks to go! 🙂
