Happy happy Monday! This weekend was one of those weekends that was so good that you feel refreshed and ready to go for the week.
Well, that and I only have a three-day work week since I’m heading out to Minneapolis/Duluth on Thursday for race day… woohoo!
Back to the weekend. Kicked it off with some sushi and hiking at one of my favorite places in Austin, Walnut Creek Trail. There are SO many trails back in here that I think it’ll take awhile before I’ve explored them all.
Saturday started with a 12 miler (more on that later), followed by a couple of hours at the pool (much needed in the now-too-hot heat), followed by some BBQ and learning how to can by helping with some peach sauce, and finally, finishing up the day with some brewery fun with some friends.
And yesterday, I made it to the grocery store… and found some interesting treasures thanks to shopping on an empty stomach. I am particularly excited to try the pluot. I only bought it for it’s name.
The only downside to the weekend? Watching the weather forecast for Saturday…
It’s the one part of marathon day that you can’t control and so there’s no sense in stressing over it, but it does frustrate me. I knew when I signed up for this race there was a good chance that it could be hot, and so I knew there was a chance. It comes down to having the mental strength to push through and put my training to work.
And with that, recapping last week’s workouts:
I was in Tampa last weekend and when I met up with Jesica on Saturday, she said that she had some friends who were going out for a long run on Sunday. They were planning on doing 10, and I jumped in and joined them. I love how running can bond you with people that you’ve never met before! And, I loved finally being able to meet Beth. It was a great run — I tacked on some before and after and ended up with 16.
I had plans to meet up with Kristen from Fit Bottomed Girls for a run, but had to change my flight and get back to Austin for work, so that didn’t happen (happy I’ll be seeing her in just a few weeks!)… rest day. 🙂
Quick speed work day —> 6 x 400m with 200m rest in between and 800m warm up and cool down. It ended up being just over three miles and a great way to shake out my legs after a long travel day on Monday.
An easy four miles! It was hot and humid, and a good reminder that I’m happy that marathon training wraps up this week since it’ll only get hotter… thanks, Texas.
And because, taper… five miles. I think the #tapercrazies were starting to set in at this point… too much energy, not enough miles. 🙂
An easy four around my apartment, including on this cute little trail around a lake that I try to run unless it’s raining (because the mud is something wicked).
12 miles! My last double-digit run until race day. It was a really good run and I had a hard time holding my legs back to the pace where they needed to be. I hope that’s a good sign that they are ready to go for Grandma’s Marathon!
44 miles total! Not bad for a taper week.
P.S. THANK YOU to everyone for your amazing support for my first tee that I launched with Tee Spring! It’s perfect for your 4th of July races —> check it out HERE. Only a few days left to get it. 🙂
