Guys. I’m so pumped right now, I am ACTUALLY READING BOOKS THIS YEAR. So far, I’ve read:

I had the same goal of reading at least one book per month last year and tragically failed. I’m in it to win it this year.

Now, I wish I could be as excited about the book that I just finished reading, “What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding” by Kristin Newman.

It’s a memoir that covers her life in her 30s, when she decided to quit her “normal” life of stressing about work, going to baby showers and watching all of her friends get married… and instead, decided to fall in love with the world and travel to places like Argentina, Brazil and Israel.

I really wanted to like this book because a) I love to travel and b) it was recommended to me by a good friend. But, it just wasn’t my favorite. Kristin is a writer for a lot of hit shows and I kinda felt like she was trying too hard to be interesting throughout the whole book. And, I really didn’t like how her escapades around the world were benchmarked with the men that she slept with in each country.

But there was some good. I really loved reading about her trip to Israel (in fact, based on this, I would probably add this to my to-travel list) and the life advice that she offered along the way. On a scale of 10, with 1 being the worst and 10 being the most amazing, I would give this a solid 6.

Would I recommend “What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding“? Hmm, I’m not quite so sure. If you love to travel and expect a book that will make you see the world differently because of her experiences, I don’t think it’ll get you there. If you are looking for a different perspective on single life and want to “flee” what some would say is “normal” life, it might be a little bit better for you.

What’s the last bad book you read? Did you finish it?

What are you reading right now? I am always looking for new books to add to my reading list!
