I am in shock that we are already halfway through 2016! It is insane how some days seem to move so slow, but when you look back on life, time just continues to fly by. Not to get all sappy in the first two sentences of this post –> but it’s just a reminder of why we need to appreciate every day for what it is and live life with one goal in mind: to make us happy.

And that gets me to the title of today’s post: how life has changed. The first six months of the year were a rollercoaster for me as I went through something I never thought I would go through: a divorce.

Yes, that happened. Out of respect for all involved, I’m not going to get into the details of the what and the why. But out of respect for you, I thought you needed to know.

It’s a sucky situation that others have also had to go through unfortunately, and I know I spent a lot of time reading blog posts, forums and articles that gave me inspiration in the dark moments and I hope that maybe, just maybe, even just for one person, I can be that light.

It’s going to sound crazy, but two of the things that helped me get through the hardest moments over the past few months? Pinterest inspiration quote boards and “Hello” by Adele. I listened to that song on repeat for weeks straight, often starting it from the moment I went to work til the moment I left so that I could soothe my soul and channel my introverted side for perhaps the first time in my life.

And of course, my friends and family. You know who you are. The people that I could text and say, it’s not a good day, and you would remind me that it may not be a good day, but there’s good in every day.

So yes, that was a big component of what defined my first half of the year. It brought a rollercoaster of emotions, where some days I felt like I was never going to be able to get out of bed and others where I felt like I was on top of the world. When it was all happening, my friend Katie kept telling me that in six months, I would look back on this and be so much happier and in such a better place. I didn’t really believe her.

Until about three months ago, just one day, I woke up feeling lighter and better about life. It didn’t mean that emotionally I was recovered, but it meant that I knew Katie was going to be right. So yes, divorce sucks and it’s a sad situation, but in this case… the grass IS greener on the other side.

So, there’s that.

But! It wasn’t the only thing that happened over the past six months. If you follow me on Instagram –> you may have came across a big purchase I made this week.

I first fell in love with Jeeps about a year ago and it was a few months ago that I decided that it’s the car for me. I love that it has a lot of room, but is still really fun to drive. Plus, you can’t beat being able to take the top and the doors off… woo! I am so excited to adventure around in it this summer and for years to come. Now to think of a clever name… 🙂

Anyways, I followed through with my goal for the year to focus on me, and want to give myself a high five for nailing it. Among that included some amazing trips —> Minneapolis, Denver, Curacao, Wisconsin, Minneapolis round dos as well as…

Followed through on learning something new each month

Learning how to curl

This makes me so happy and excited! I love the idea about challenging myself to try new things, and setting a goal to do it once per month makes such a difference. Here is what I’ve done so far (and P.S., the second half of the year is going to be great… skydiving may be on the list):

On track to read one book per month for the year

Oh, I am so happy about this. I’ve always loved to read and over the years, have kinda sucked at this. Here is what I’ve read so far this year:

Set a PR… I think?

I’m still baffled how this happened… in case you missed it, I got a 3:31.19 at Grandma’s Marathon, which is the EXACT time that my previous marathon time was. Down to the second. How does this happen? So, I’m calling it my new-old PR.

Channeling my creative side

DIY crochet booties | Crazy Running Girl

Well, I am a little behind on this one (but working on one that means I’ll be at TWO projects). I did make these super cute baby booties for my friend Amanda who had twins earlier this month. I still think I’ll be able to hit 5 projects by the end of the year. 🙂

Find balance

This is definitely a work in progress. I spent the first month and a half of the year not really running and a good chunk of the first half of the year working too much and sleeping too little. In the middle of all of that, I decided to train for a marathon and get serious about my nutrition… which resulted in a solid marathon time and me losing 15 pounds in the process (!!!).

So I think I nailed the fitness/health portion of my life, but there are other areas where I can improve… so here’s to the second half of the year to do that. 🙂

P.S. Isn’t Apollo just the cutest in a tie!? This has nothing to do with balance, but at least it should make you smile.

How was your first half of the year? Best thing that happened to you?

How are you doing with your goals for the year? What do you want to improve in the second half of the year?
