Before I get to today’s post —> I LOVED reading all of your tricks for beating your mind on yesterday’s post! Go check them out and add yours if you haven’t already (and hey, it counts as an entry for my giveaway, too!).
When I was in Oregon a few weeks ago running the Destination Races Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon, we stayed a few days afterwards to explore Portland and the surrounding area. The day after the race, we left wine country and headed to Horsetail Falls just outside of Oregon. I am so happy that I’ve gotten to do a LOT of hiking in the recent year because it is definitely one of my favorite things.
Anyways, when we arrived at Horsetail Falls, you could see the waterfall right away and it was absolutely beautiful! (Note, this post is going to be light on words and heavy on pictures because I just can’t do it justice.)
We hiked a little bit (yay switchbacks) and ended up at the top of the waterfall.
A perfect place to take a swim and enjoy the sights.
with Kristen from FBG! One of my favs!
It made me really happy that I chose to wear my Vibrams for the hike (<– seriously my favorite hiking shoes ever) because I could easily dip my feet in and not have to deal with wet socks.
From there, we continued along the path and over a bridge (sorry, no grandmother’s house here!) with some amazing views of the surrounding area.
The hike was mostly in the shade and it wasn’t super crowded. Granted, we were there late on a Sunday afternoon so I’m sure most people were headed out and getting ready for the work week. We were cruising a little bit on the trail because we had to get back to the airport to drop Megan off, but it was the right intensity so it wasn’t a terrible thing.
We ended up doing the full loop — which I think was about 1.5 miles or so — and ended back on the road to walk back to the car.
I’m so glad that we chose to venture out of the city to visit such a beautiful part of the state! I mean, granted, Oregon is pretty gorgeous all the way around, but this was definitely a must-see (hint, hint if you find yourself in the area).
Hiking: Love it or hate it? What’s the best hike you’ve been on?
This or that: Waterfalls or ocean?
