Happy Friday and welcome to Labor Day weekend! I know that summer doesn’t “officially” end for another few weeks, but to me, summer will always be from Memorial Day – Labor Day weekend. So with that, I’m linking up with Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC to talk about my favorite moments from this summer.
1. Setting a new-old PR at Grandma’s Marathon
I made a decision late in the game to run Grandma’s Marathon in June and my training went phenomenally. That combined with OTF and losing 15 pounds meant that I felt like I was in the best shape in a long time. And the perfect opportunity to go for a PR!
Well, Mother Nature apparently wanted to make it as challenging as possible and threw a wrench in the plans with a really hot marathon day. So while I didn’t get a PR or the sub-3:30 I was gunning for, I did get a 3:31.19… the exact same time as my previous marathon PR. I’m calling it a new-old PR and am still trying to understand how you run 26.2 miles down to the exact second.
2. Going to Oregon (twice!)
The first time I went to Oregon was with Brooks Running and the Run Happy Blog Ambassador crew, and we were there to cheer on all of our athletes at the Olympic Track Trials! We spent a weekend in Eugene and it was absolutely amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat.
The second time around, I went with a few blogger friends for the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon and some adventuring around Portland. It was spectacular. [See yesterday’s post for a prime example.]
3. Spending a week in Wisconsin with my family
For years, my family has rented a cabin in Northern Wisconsin for a week in the summer and we’ve spent the time boating, fishing and enjoying the Wisconsin summer weather. We decided to bring this tradition back, so I headed up to Wisconsin in early August for an amazing week of fun with the family. I can’t wait til we do it again next year.
4. Backpacking in Colorado
I had to travel to Denver for work, so my BFF Steph and I decided it would be the perfect time to add on a backpacking camping trip in Colorado. This is the first time I ever went backpacking and it was absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to do it again.
5. Buying my JEEP
I’ve been dreaming about having a Jeep for a long time now and it was the best feeling to finally make that a reality. Seriously the cherry on top of an awesome summer.
Overall, it was a pretty epic summer with a lot of great travel and fun moments with friends and family. I always love when you can look back on a period of time and know that you lived it to the max, and I can definitely say that about the past three months. This year has been one that has defined my character and it has also been one where I’ve learned how to branch out and focus on what I deserve. I am so proud of myself for finally focusing on me and the things (and people) that are most important to me. Here’s to an amazing fall and remainder of 2016!
