Hey there, Monday!
So this post is about a lot of lasts that happened last week! (ha, another!) As you know, this weekend was my last weekend in Austin and I really can’t believe that I leave Texas in just 72 hours. 72 HOURS. It all happened so fast and even though I feel that way, I know that I am ready and excited to start my next chapter.
I am so happy that I made the sacrifice to stand in line for about three hours to go to Franklin BBQ, which is known as the best BBQ in Texas… it gets tons of awards. They have a limited supply of BBQ each day (they don’t want to sacrifice the quality for quantity), so you generally have to go early and wait in line. We showed up just before 8 a.m. and were #11 in line! We had our food by about 11:15.
So was it worth it? YES. Hands down. I would recommend if you come to Austin to give it a shot because I can’t even describe how amazing the BBQ tasted. It almost felt like I cheated by only having to wait in line for a few hours. Yeah, I know, weird.
On Saturday, I did another one of my favorite things in Austin — craft beer tasting! My friends and I headed to a craft beer festival on the East Side and it was a lot of fun!
Plus, we got to watch some college football throughout the festival — another bonus!
And to finish it off, I ran my long run yesterday morning around Town Lake for the last time.
What I won’t miss? Having to get up at the crack of dawn to get a long run in. I was up around 7 a.m. and it was far too late – let’s just say this was definitely a tough one to finish and towards the end, I could only run for 1/10 of a mile and had to walk for a bit because I felt like I was going to throw up. But, I got the miles in and the time on my feet.
I do love running Town Lake — this trail was outside of my door for the first few years here in Austin, and I still enjoy going down there on the weekend for a long run. It’s absolutely gorgeous and a pretty solid trail.
So there you have it —> my last weekend in Austin. I have a going away party tomorrow night (sad face) and I think that will be the hardest part. Saying goodbye to the people who have been such a big part of my life for the past few years (and for some, even longer). I guess you have to think of it as a see you later vs. a goodbye forever.
Twin Cities Marathon Training Update
Last week was also my last week of training for the Twin Cities Marathon! It is now less than three weeks away… and you know what that means: taper time! I am so excited for it right now, but just talk to me in about a week; I’ll be ready for it to be marathon day (and freaking out about it at the same time). Anyways, a recap of last week’s workouts:
Monday: Easy 6 miles
Tuesday: Yassos (800m w/u and c/d with 10x800m and 200m slow jog in between — all on the treadmill!)
Wednesday: Easy 4 miles! Plus, weight training at Gold’s Gym
Thursday: 14 miles (up at 4 a.m. for this one — that was fun!)
Friday: rest day
Saturday: rest day (pushed long run to Sunday)
How was your weekend? What was your favorite part?
Who else is running a fall marathon? Which one?
