Last night, I enjoyed my first run in Minnesota.

Fall running in Minneapolis | Crazy Running Girl

For one, it was amazing weather even though it was 5 p.m., which would be a terrible time to run from now until like November in Austin. I also loved how many runners I saw out and about! I always love running when there are other people around. It was also gorgeous.

I think I’ll enjoy running here.

One of the things that I’ve changed for my fitness is my involvement with Orangetheory Fitness. I first signed up for this about a year and a half ago… so it’s a BIG change to no longer have it on the schedule. I joined because I wanted something that would challenge my muscles different than running… and I definitely needed that little push to get it done because while I tell myself that I’ll lift weights at home, this generally happens:

I’ve also lived in apartment complexes for the past several years that actually have fitness centers built into them. And even with that, I just do not make it to the gym like I always say I will. For some reason, I have no push when it’s working out other than running.

Orangetheory Fitness really helped to change that. It not only gave me a chance to focus on running faster, but also made me focus on those other muscle groups that make me a better runner. And I’ve definitely seen the results! I think it was partly why I was able to lose 15 pounds earlier this year. I definitely have more arm and shoulder definition than I ever have had, and now that I’m not doing it anymore, I don’t want to lose that!

So, why not just do it you may be asking. I would love to, but the closest studio is about 20 minutes away from my house with no traffic. I don’t know about you, but I feel like that’s just too far to drive for a fitness class because let’s be honest, it will turn into about 30 minutes and then you have to get there about 15 minutes early… that’s about the time of the entire fitness class!

Instead, I’m looking for alternatives. Thus far, I’ve debated about going back to just focusing on doing the workouts on my own and tell myself that this time, it will be different because I’ve noticed the results. That would definitely be better for my budget, too. 😉

I’m also thinking about doing ClassPass. I know a lot of people who do it and absolutely love it! And the thing I really like about this is the fact that there are a ton of studios within walking distance of my house! I can’t beat that for sure.

I know that I’ll wait until my marathon streak is done because I don’t want to switch up too much stuff before that… so in the meantime, I can try out that “own your motivation” aspect. Until then, let’s hope my arm muscles don’t get scared away… 😉

Do you do weight training on your own? How do you stay motivated?
