As you read this, I am on a plane on my way back to the U.S.! Our week in Barcelona was productive and also a lot of fun.
Speaking of Barcelona… remember how I had big plans to run while I was in Barcelona?
Well, that didn’t happen.
We had long days and late nights, and because of that, I had a hard time getting up in the morning to go run. I even had plans with my coworker to meet and totally overslept (…through three alarms).
So the only time I’ve run since the Twin Cities Marathon was that 5k last weekend.
And I have the Marine Corps Marathon next weekend.
This is not how I visioned my time between marathons.
But you know what? Life happens. Jet lag happens.
So, I’m not going to freak out about it. And instead, I’ll focus on the positives:
+ I just ran a marathon. I’m in pretty solid shape from that. Yes, I probably lost some fitness this week, but other than that, I’m not going into this like I signed up for a race and forgot to train.
+ I spent a lot of time walking and on my feet in Barcelona. We were here for a tradeshow, so I was on my feet for at least nine hours a day, which I’m hoping can be just as good of a workout as running would have been. 😉
+ I have no solid goals for this marathon. Of course, I would love to get a PR but I know that I’m not in PR shape for that so I want to go out and enjoy the course and have fun with Melissa in DC.
+ I have next week to prepare. No, I’m not going to cram a few weeks of running into next week, but I am going to work on making sure I’m well rested and in a good state for the race. As good as I can be.
I need your advice! What can I do to feel more prepared for the Marine Corps Marathon?
