Remember when I had a goal of reading one book a month? I kinda fell off on that the past few months, but finally finished one last week: The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty

Book review: The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty | Crazy Running Girl

This was an impulse buy a few months ago when I was at Barnes & Noble and they were having an INSANE sale on books. I think I got this one for under $5… as a hardcover!

Before I get into it, here’s the full synopsis:

At the heart of The Husband’s Secret is a letter that’s not meant to be read.

My darling Cecilia, if you’re reading this, then I’ve died…

Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret—something with the potential to destroy not only the life you have built together, but the lives of others as well. And then imagine that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive…

Cecilia Fitzpatrick has achieved it all—she’s an incredibly successful businesswoman, a pillar of her small community, a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything—and not just for her. There are other women who barely know Cecilia—or each other—but they, too, are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband’s secret.

I was super into this book when I first started reading it… I think Moriarty did a really good job of building up the suspense of finding out the secret. Like, it was such a page turner for awhile.

But then I found out the secret, and I wasn’t that interested anymore, and I realized I still had a lot of pages left. I don’t know why she revealed it so early. Maybe it’s just me, but without that suspense, I just wasn’t that interested anymore. I think it was interesting to see how it impacted each of the characters, and there was still a little drama, but not enough for me to claim this as a favorite book.

That being said, I’d recommend “The Husband’s Secret” to someone who wants a good beach or plane read. But, it’s definitely some chick lit at it’s finest. 😉
