When we were in Door County two weekends ago for the half marathon, we were a little ambitious and decided to go for a hike after the race. The race itself was held in Peninsula State Park, which I think is one of my favorite places in Wisconsin. It is absolutely beautiful and sometimes you forget that you are even in Wisconsin.
The Eagle Bluff Trail is one of my favorite as well, it runs along the bluffs and the water so you get some insane views.
And there are some caves built into the bluffs, so duh, of course I had to see if I could fit:
When we hiked, it was pretty windy and my cousin, who had just been in Daytona Beach the week previous, said the waves were just as big as the ones she saw in the ocean while she was there.
Even though the hike is rated as difficult, I didn’t think it was that bad (and that’s on tired legs). The first 2/3 of it you descend so you are pretty close to the shoreline.
And then after that, there is a little bit of a climb with some stairs, but it’s not much at all. Maybe I’m just a little bit biased after all of my hikes in Colorado. 😉
For the last part, you cross the road to continue on the Eagle Bluff Trail and walk through what would be extremely wooded. It was kinda cool to go earlier in the season so that you could actually see around you — so pretty.
From there, it looped back to where we parked. Usually, there’s also an outlook tower that you can climb that’s part of the trail, but they tore it down and are planning to rebuild it so it’s ADA compliant. The old tower gave you incredible views of the lake, but also the park, and it was a little scary to climb (at least I thought so when I was a kid!).
If you’re ever in the Door County area, I recommend checking out Peninsula State Park and the Eagle Bluff Trail.
